The Roldermarkt, one of the most beloved and traditional annual fairs in Drenthe, is in full swing and once again drawing thousands of visitors to the charming village of Rolde. This annual event, which dates back to the Middle Ages, combines a rich history with modern entertainment. The Roldermarkt offers a week filled with activities for young and old, providing a unique opportunity to bring the community together.

A Look back at history

The Roldermarkt began centuries ago as a livestock market where farmers and traders from the region sold their cattle. Over time, the market evolved into an important social and economic event. Although the livestock market is now a thing of the past, the Roldermarkt remains true to its roots by offering a variety of local products and artisanal goods. The historical charm of the market is still palpable, and visitors can enjoy demonstrations of old crafts such as basket weaving, blacksmithing, and woodworking.
