The Roldertoren Run had its inaugural edition on October 1, 2022. This year, the run offers three different distances:
- Buro Hollema Half Marathon of 21.1 kilometers
- ICTSpecialist 10 kilometers
- KLOK 5 kilometers
The half marathon starts at 11:00 AM, followed by the shorter distances. This event takes participants through the beautiful Drenthe countryside, passing by purple heathlands, burial mounds, babbling brooks, Celtic fields, and historical cart tracks. The route also provides views of the distinctive Roldertoren, a central landmark in the landscape.
The Roldertoren Run stands out for its unique and historical course. Runners experience both paved and unpaved paths, including an old railway line from Stadskanaal to Assen and picturesque Drenthe villages with traditional farms. The name of the run has been carefully chosen, as the iconic Roldertoren is visible from almost every point on the course. The event is organized by a group of enthusiastic runners who have revived the historical Rolde half marathon, which was held 28 times until 2008.
In addition to the athletic challenge, the Roldertoren Run also supports three charities: the Stichting Behoud Rolder Kerk, Staatsbosbeheer, and Stichting Energy4All. Part of the registration fee goes to these organizations. Participants can sign up via the official website of the run, making Rolde once again a significant running event that combines sport, nature, and history.
