Bert Kiewiet
Bert Kiewiet, born on April 13, 1918 in Amsterdam and died on August 31, 2008 in Mantinge, was a Dutch sculptor. He is known for his realistic bronze statues that often depict everyday scenes. “Market” is a typical example of Kiewiet's oeuvre, which often depicts the common activities and characters found in the region where he lived and worked.
Kiewiet only started his career as an artist after the age of forty, after receiving technical training and teaching for many years. His bronze statues are spread over many places in Drenthe and the surrounding area. They are a tribute to everyday life and the people who played a role in it. In addition to "Markt" in Rolde, his works include images of shopping women in Beilen, meeting scenes in Alphen aan den Rijn and Zuidwolde, and themes such as protection, reading and deliberation.
