In 1993, the Drenthe poet Geesje Hoving unveiled a meaningful work of art in Rolde, made by Jaap Hartman. This statue, a boy in clogs with a lunch bag on his back, symbolizes the schoolchildren of the past. It harkens back to a time when children still walked to school, with their lunch box securely strapped to their bags.

The unveiling took place on March 3, 1993, two years after the 100th anniversary of the Roldese school, which was celebrated in 1991. This special moment was organized by Jan Mulder, also known as Jampie Mulder. Geesje Hoving's poem, recited at the unveiling, added an emotional and poetic dimension to the statue, making it come to life even more:

"Er gung een jonkie
deur het veld - klompies an
stoettrommeltie op nak
op weg hen school
waor as het zien eerste
woordties leert. Er steet een jonkie
midden in Rol
waor as eerst zien school
hef staon.
Elk die hier veurbij geet
zot zichzelf weer
hen de Rolderschool gaon"

Rougly translated as:

"There was a little boy
through the field - wearing clogs
food box in your pocket
on the way to school
where he learned his first
words. There is a young boy
in the middle of Rolde
where his first
school stood.
Anyone who passes here
sees him going
to the Rolderschool again"
